The Doctor Who Survival Guide

As we wait the hard few months for our precious, precious show to return, here are a few tips for getting through this tough time.

Week Seven: Halfway Out of the Dark

We’re halfway there, guys. Can you start to feel it? The excitement? Knowing that soon (but not soon enough) the Doctor will be back in our lives?

In the meantime, let’s take the time to celebrate the other “halfway out of the dark”. This week, it’s all about the Christmas Specials! Go back and re-watch your favorites or speculate on the one we’ll be seeing later this year. Or, maybe you feel like spreading a little holiday cheer, even. Whatever it is you do to celebrate, just remember: we’re halfway there.

Good luck, Time Lords and Ladies!

Week Six Challenge: COSPLAY!!

Whether it’s the most involved costuming we’ve ever seen or the simplest of ideas, I want to see all of your Cosplay outfits! Don’t feel ashamed, we all have something and we’re all curious! Post a picture and share it with all of Tumblr!

I look forward to seeing all of your cosplay costumes and ideas!

Good luck, Time Lords and Ladies! <3 <3

Week Six: Comic Con!!

So Comic Con is actually next weekend, and there will be a lot of posts on the matter then too, but I have something else planned for next weekend so we’re going to start celebrating a week early.

Whether you’ve been there before or you’re going this year or you’re going to be watching everything from home on your blog, you can always be a part of the extremely nerdy celebration. The whole point of Comic Con is bringing nerds together and, at least for a little while, not feeling alone in your extreme nerdiness. (I guess it’s also about the studios making money, but that doesn’t sound nearly as nice) And San Diego isn’t the only Comic Con in the world: There’s New York, there’s Paris, there’s Seattle…I know there’s a lot of you Whovians out there that have been to at least one.

So here’s what we’re doing this week: connecting and sharing. I encourage you all to talk to fellow Whovians, see if you can meet up (obligatory “Be safe” comment since I am a Grandma of Tumblr and only wish to look out for all of you), talk about what you think will happen next season, talk about what you loved about past seasons. Even if you can’t go to any Comic Con’s this year, you can still get into the spirit by being as nerdy as possible.

Much love, Time Lords and Ladies <3 <3

Week Five: Writing Challenge

So a while ago, Steven Moffat tweeted that if Captain Jack Harkness met River Song he would ask who she is, then River would whisper in his ear, and then he’d salute.

WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!?!

You’re challenge this week is to write exactly what this is supposed to mean. What would happen if River Song and the Eleventh Doctor met Captain Jack Harkness and the rest of the Torchwood team (or what’s left of them, anyway…)

Good luck, Time Lords and Ladies! <3 <3

Week Five: Torchwood

So yesterday the first episode of Miracle Day aired. Did you all watch it? What do you think?

This week it’s all about Captain Jack Harkness and his team of alien hunters. Whether you’ve been watching it from season one or you’ve never watched a single episode, this week is for you (although if you’ve never watched a single episode I suggest you catch up in a summer with no new Who).

Go forth, Whovians! I’ll see you in the Hub! <3 <3

Week Four Challenge #2: Games

Currently, this blog is in a bit of a trial run. I’ve never actually done anything like this before and thought Whovians might need something like this for now, yes, but especially when the year long break we’re about to have is upon us. So this week is a challenge/help come up with new ideas.

When my friends and I were coming up with ideas for the Lost Survival Guide so long ago, the week where we were supposed to be outside included camping out in the “most Island like part of the town.” For the camp out, we came up with a bunch of silly games (one of my friends was the smoke monster and she chased us around…we were very strange kids…we’re still strange).

So what kind of games can Whovians play? The more ridiculous the better!

Week Four Tip #1: Torchwood screening

It’s like the world wants Whovians to venture outside every once in a while as well!

There are a few cities that are setting up screenings of Torchwood: Miracle Day. Check to see if your city is one of them and venture a walk (or a ride) to see it!

(This also pertains to next weeks theme *hinthint*)

The Doctor Who Survival Guide: Week Four: GO OUTSIDE!!

doctorwhosurvivalguide:

You’ve been sitting at home on your computer, chatting with various Whovians about what may or may not happen next, watching the series over and over again, writing fanfic, making graphics…it’s time to, once again, experience the Outside World.

However, in no way does this mean you need to stop being

Suggestion: Join your local SF group. Don’t know if you have an SF group nearby? Look your area up on meetup.com. You could even start your own group!

Clearly a good way to meet some quality people.

Week Four: Photo Challenge

Alright, among the few challenges I have this week, this is going to be the main one. Now that I’m forcing you to go outside (as much as a blog you read can force you to go outside) here’s something for you to do to still keep yourself thinking like a Whovian:

There’s so much in the world outside your computer that can remind you of Doctor Who, so take your camera/camera phone and start taking pictures! Someone wearing a bowtie? Something TARDIS like? Someone who looks vaguely like one of the Doctor’s? Take your pictures and submit them!

Good luck, Time Lords and Ladies! <3 <3

Week Four: GO OUTSIDE!!

You’ve been sitting at home on your computer, chatting with various Whovians about what may or may not happen next, watching the series over and over again, writing fanfic, making graphics…it’s time to, once again, experience the Outside World.

However, in no way does this mean you need to stop being a Whovian.

It’s all about traveling and camping out in weird places and finding things in odd places this week. It’s all about finding that little bit of Who in your life that exists in the outside world. The challenges (yes, more than one) this week will reflect that.

Go forth, Time Lords and Ladies, and good luck! <3 <3
